I lift my eyes up, because sometimes it seems as if all help is gone.
I lift my eyes up in a desperate search for stable ground.
I lift my eyes up, wanting something to be my rock and fortress.
I lift my eyes up, seeking out answers, explanations, or something real.
My help doesn’t come from the mountains, though.
But from the Lord of the mountains Himself.
He is present, active and ready, although it may not feel true.
He is ready to help, and acting already, though maybe not in the ways I want.
Sometimes I want help to come in a very defined way.
I want help to be a person who never fails me.
I want help to be a relationship that never betrays me.
I want help to be a buffer of money, status or position.
I want help to be never fearing the future because of some tangible thing.
But that’s not really help.
It makes me reliant on that thing or person.
Instead, my help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.
He will be, and is now, my help in every area of my life.
He will lift up my head and remind me I’m loved.
He will strengthen my body when it feels as if I can’t go on.
He will empower me to do things I never dreamed I could.
He will bring wisdom for situations I don’t understand.
He will comfort me when it feels as if everything is against me.
He will bring peace that makes no sense in the circumstance.
He will elevate me above the fray to see the way ahead as I never planned it.
He will bring rest and safety in the shadow of His wings.
He will take all my cares as I cast them on Him.
He will whisper the truth of His love to me time and again.
He will make the impossible possible in ways I could not have dreamed.
He will free me from all that weighs me down.
He is the Provider, the Bread of Life, the tender Father.
He is the Shepherd, the Comforter, my best friend.
He is the wooer, the Bridegroom, the Lover of my soul.
He is the Rock upon which I can stand and look out on the world without fear.
But in the day that I’m afraid, I lay all my fears before you and trust in you with all my heart. Psalm 56:3
