Just keep walking, a little step at a time.
Sometimes that’s all I’ve got to do.
One foot in front of the other,
Without knowing what is next,
I just keep walking and waiting
For the way God’s making ahead.
Some days the walking seems drudgery,
And I want to stop and rest.
He reminds me that rest is constant,
If I will just trust Him and ask for His strength.
So, one foot in front of the other,
Walking continually onward.
When Moses walked forward, the Red Sea parted,
Giving God’s people an escape.
When Joshua walked forward, the lands were given,
Everything his feet walked on was theirs.
When Jesus walked forward, the water held him up,
Showing how nature worships its Creator.
When I walk forward, I am tuning my ear,
Listening for God to call out right or left.
He often doesn’t give me the whole set of directions,
But directs as the moment calls for it.
Sometimes I stomp my feet at this waiting,
Wanting control and knowledge rather than dependence and trust.
One foot in front of the other,
Traveling on I go.
The journey is so important to the God
I love and with whom I walk.
He is not in a hurry, although sometimes I wish He was,
He keeps pace with me, holding my hand each step.
The future it seems so foggy,
Nothing makes sense round-about.
The whole world is on fire,
And I’m not always supposed to try to put it out.
The fires have burned forever.
They won’t be changed by my will.
Instead, I’m to encourage others
To walk along with me.
One foot in front of the other,
Ears tuned to the voice of the Shepherd.
He calls right or left as we go,
And we walk on following His calling.
It seems so small and mundane sometimes,
I want the big leaps and bounds.
I want to run ahead and make something happen,
And see the big shifts and new things.
But He calls me to put one foot in front of the other,
One little step at a time.
My friend, are you weary of walking?
Sometimes I get that way too.
Come walk with me for a while,
Together we will hear God’s voice.
Directing us right or left as we walk ahead,
Just happy for the company and time spent together.
One foot in front of the other,
Walking onward in Him.
No idea what comes around the next corner,
But waiting for the provision and love.
Jesus holds my hand as we walk along,
And tells me it’s going to be okay.
Even though the Lord may allow you to go through a season of hardship and difficulty, he himself will be there with you. He will not hide himself from you, for your eyes will constantly see him as your Teacher. When you turn to the right or turn to the left, you will hear his voice behind you to guide you, saying, “This is the right path; follow it.” Isaiah 30: 20-21
