Sometimes it feels like drowning.
Like the abyss is swallowing you up.
Sometimes your feet find no foundation
And your mind wanders in frantic search.
The waves threaten to cover you
Leaving no trace of life behind.
The fear seems to choke you
As you wait for a rescue that seems far away.
Then I remember I’m not drowning but floating,
Kept up by the Everlasting Arms underneath.
He provides the strength to tread water
And holds my head up to breathe.
Sometimes the whole world is on fire
The life you’ve built caving round.
Sometimes the ashes of the brokenness
Suffocate your lungs and sting your eyes.
The fires burn hot and painful
Flames licking at feet and hands.
In the remnants of that burning inferno
No life can seem to keep on.
The fires are hot but not deadly,
Painful but not melting me away.
He surrounds me as a Strong Tower,
And keeps me safe from the flame.
Sometimes the darkness covers my eyes
Fear echoes through the black.
Sometimes no light seems to get in
And I yearn for just a glimmer of hope.
The dark cloud of despair covers quickly.
It disguises any peace or hope as lost.
Darkness swallows whole my life and love
Leaving me with nothing but a void.
But darkness cannot conquer light
Even if it seems to do so.
The Light of the World pierces the darkness
Reminding me of the Hope I have in Him.
I don’t have the answers or remedies
Life sometimes feels so alone
But the truth of it never changes.
He is with me. He keeps me. He loves me.
Because of His Life I can stand
Through deep water, fire and darkness.
In my weakness in each of these places,
His strength can be seen all the more.
When you pass through the deep, stormy sea, you can count on me to be there with you. When you pass through raging rivers, You will not drown. When you walk through persecution like fiery flames, you will not be burned; the flames will not harm you, for I am your Savior, Yahweh, your mighty God, the Holy One of Israel! Isaiah 43:2-3a
Then Jesus said, “I am light to the world and those who embrace me will experience life-giving light, and they will never walk in darkness.” John 8:12
